Deceit Delivers

Reviewed by Joelle Charbonneau-Blanco

Disgraced journalist, Tom Valle, has started a new life in Littleton California.  Trying to resurrect a career he destroyed by lying, Tom is now doing his best to regain his reputation by covering local stories—only to have the biggest story of his life land in his lap.  While investigating a town’s destruction from fifty years ago, Tom digs for the truth only to find himself in danger.  Worse yet is the knowledge that even if he gets his story no one will believe a reporter who once cried wolf.

James Siegel pens an exciting premise to this thriller in which the hero of the story has a past filled with less than heroic behavior.  This creates a unique conflict.  Not only must Tom Valle dodge bullets and uncover long buried truths, he must fight his own reputation.  The combination of the two makes for a wonderful twist on this popular genre.

While this book is fascinating and cleverly constructed, the ending of Deceit might leave some readers feeling a bit off balance.  However, the pacing to this novel is quick and the descriptions and storyline are so vivid that the reader will not put down this book until the last page is turned.
