Widow Stella Rothchild has moved, with her two boys, to Tennessee to start life over. She lands her dream job as the next step in her career and moves into Harper House. Stella also meets the very eligible Logan Kitridge, much to the displeasure of Harper House's resident ghost, the Harper Bride. "Blue Dahlia," the first in Robert's "In the Garden" trilogy, is a love story landscaped with survival, spunk, determination, and rooted in southern hospitality. Roberts introduces a well-defined cast of characters, each with a distinct and memorable personality that pulls the reader in, heart, mind, and soul. This novel was a pleasure to read. More refreshing was how Roberts chose to embrace the characters' personality quirks, taking advantages of both the strengths and weaknesses. Rather than eliminate irritating habits, she made them into part of the character's charm. In other words, Stella grows, but she retains her OCD'ish nature throughout. It becomes a fun quirk rather than an annoying distraction. If you enjoy Nora Roberts, this is a must-read. Maybe even a "Keeper." -C.W.
