Alex Cross just wanted a little R & R with his family. Unfortunately, Disneyland had to be put on hold when a serial killer around L.A. started sending detailed e-mails about the murders. "Mary Smith" made a point to share the victims' reactions to the sudden knowledge they would die.

Another high-profile case is not what Alex needed, while trying to regain custody rights to his youngest son. Yanked between the case in L.A., his home office in D.C., and Little Alex in Seattle, Alex must balance the needs of family with the urgency demanded in catching a killer. The stakes are high on all fronts of his life.

Patterson has delivered a suspense novel worthy of his reputation. The villain's heinous actions chill the reader even as s/he glances over her/his shoulder to make sure a killer isn't stalking her/his life.

The short chapters facilitate the fast pace, although the frequent breaks may be distracting at times. This novel is easy to read and difficult to put down, with a twist at the end that will blow the reader away.
