Inara Press is a newcomer to the e-publication market and one of their first offerings is a unique read. The readers get the serialized novelette in weekly installments. Their first serial, The Adventures of Ransom and Fortune is a time-travel suspenseful story that takes place in the present as well as twelfth century Scotland.
Skye Ransom is on the run for her life from hit man Dade Fortune. He's already killed her parents and now he's after her. Her father's partner, Conner, wants the time travel device she has and will go to any length to get it, including hiring Dade. Skye just wants to get away and make both Connor and Dade pay for what they've done.
The beginning of the story is exciting and suspenseful. The story thread draws you in, almost making you forget the mediocre writing and less than optimal editing. Unfortunately, the second half devolves into a predictable Scottish historical. The characters are stereotypical, the plot occasionally confusing, and the attraction between Skye and her rescuer unbelievable.
All the negatives aside, the story was intriguing enough that I would like to finish it just to see what does happen. Let's hope for some better writing and editing to enhance what could be a good read.
