Sarah Jane Tremont's life is changed when she is hurled back through time to Wyoming Territory in 1888. Disoriented and mistaken for a woman nobody likes, Sarah does her best to cope with the situation. It doesn't help that John Beckett, who has plenty reason to hate "Sarah One," is the first person she meets. Sarah needs to find out why she was brought back to John's time, and if she can go home. She has information that will make a difference for a poor family in her own time, and she's the only one who can tell them. Go or stay, find love or find peace, Sarah must make life-altering choices, and there are more lives than hers that will be altered. Long's portrayal of a 19th century frontier town is genuine and refreshing, with a cast of unique characters typical of a small town's makeup. Her descriptions put the reader into the scene, allowing them to get a good mental image of the area and action. Most of the characters are strong in their own right. However, Sarah appears to be somewhat passive in certain instances. In trying to fit in as her evil namesake, she allows the image to get too personal. Fortunately, Sarah shows enough gumption to make tough decisions and follow through as best as she can, given the circumstances. Long gets four books for an honest tale told with panache. -C.W.
