When Rebecca's mom remarries, she gains a stepfather, and a stepbrother. Rebecca is psyched because Pres is one of the hottest guys at school, and the object of her major crush. Now that they'll be living under the same roof, she sees the chance to hook up. But Rebecca isn't finding much support from her best friend, Celeste. Josh, Celeste's brother, has known Pres for years, which gives Celeste a few things to say about the matter. Then there's the small issue of how to relate to her new stepfather. A playwright at heart, Rebecca is encouraged that he's a drama teacher at her school. She volunteers to help with the school play in hopes of improving her relationship with her stepfather and Pres, who is cast in the starring role. Rebecca's starry-eyed optimism carries her through the bulk of the story, until her plans begin to unravel. It will be the challenge of her life to find her role in her new family and with the Perfect Guy. This is a good teen read, addressing major teen issues. Rebecca's point of view is well maintained, with layers the reader can appreciate, and the writing is clear, fun, and shows a good sense of humor. Good for a fun weekend read. -C.W.
