In the fine tradition of gritty, wisecracking PIs, Fritz Malone is put in the middle of a treacherous game of blackmail. He must find out who's behind a deadly Thanksgiving parade shooting and subsequent restaurant bombing. The intrigue shuffles him from New York City's most dangerous streets to a quiet convent, and beyond. Major players jostle for control of an unstable situation, while Fritz digs in with all his gumshoe style. "Speak of the Devil" is an outstanding work. Full of witty dialogue, fast-paced and enjoyable prose, and larger-than-life characters, it's easy to believe we'll see more of Fritz Malone in the future. Highly recommended for fans of a good mystery thriller. -C.W.
